The fashion retailer Quiz will be wiped off the high street in the UK following the confirmation by its administrators that all of the company’s remaining standalone shops will be shut by the end of June.
Another big hit has been dealt to Britain’s faltering retail industry as the new round of closures is set to come this weekend.

The fashion brand, which was founded in Glasgow, went into administration earlier this year after struggling with a range of financial pressures, from growing operating costs to shifting consumer shopping habits and competition from online retailers. Interpath Advisory administrators have been working on the business’s wind-down and the closure of its physical stores.

The closure of several branches has already occurred, and more will close over the weekend. Hanley and Mansfield’s stores will be closed on Saturday, and Carlisle and Eastbourne on Sunday. Several other stores are set to close in the next few days as stocks fall, with the Basingstoke branch the first to close.

With “clearing” sales now underway in many of its remaining shops, it is reported that Quiz will be offering up to 80 per cent discounts on some products. “Everything Must Go” banners have been erected at the entrances of stores as administrators try to sell out their remaining stock before the final store closes. There has been significant discounting on dresses and occasion wear in an effort to get rid of inventory.

Established in 1993, the retailer was once a common sight on the streets of Britain’s shopping centres and malls, selling women’s fashion and special occasion clothing at well under budget. The company went on to have hundreds of stores around the world and a large customer base. But the company has faced difficulties in recent years due to changing consumer tastes and higher expenses.

The Quiz brand will not be going away, just its standalone stores. Concessions that are already open in other retailers’ stores, like New Look and Matalan, will continue to run, administrators have said. It is also separate from the company’s online operations and the administration process.

The closure programme will bring with it a considerable amount of job losses, alongside the continued fear for the future of the UK high street. A greater cost of doing business, a decline in foot traffic and online shopping continuing to gain momentum are all identified as factors that have been impacting many brick-and-mortar retailers.

The sale of Quizzes comes as the latest in a series of retail downheavals across the UK’s high streets as the retail sector continues to change.

The high street favourite is starting to close stores across the UK, with four set to be closed in one weekend alone, reports The Sun.

The iconic clothing chain announced SIX more closures and will be closing stores in the UK this year, following the slashed dresses that are now £10.
