Jet2 Reveals Key Jet Fuel News Amid Holiday Booking Surge

Jet2 has given a fresh update on fuel supplies for its flights. The airline calmed worried passengers booking trips into late May 2026. No cancellations are planned due to shortages.

UK families love Jet2 for cheap gateways to Spain and Turkey. Many booked summer holidays months ago. Now, news of Middle East tensions raised alarms. The Strait of Hormuz closure sparked global fuel worries. But Jet2 says talks with suppliers show no issues ahead. 

This all started in April 2026. Iran conflict reports hit energy markets hard. Europe faced talk of tight jet fuel in six weeks. UK Chancellor Rachel Reeves said on April 16 that there were no supply problems. Airlines like easyJet and Ryanair backed that up. They had fuel lined up through mid-May.

Jet2 joined in on April 23. It told customers it stays in constant touch with fuel teams and airports. “We do not foresee any issues with outflights,” a spokesperson said. By early May, the mood stayed steady. ABTA, the UK travel body, said no flights were axed for fuel reasons. Rumours online proved wrong.

Jet fuel comes from refineries that also make petrol and diesel. The Middle East supplies 20% of the world’s oil. Tensions there pushed prices up. Some big carriers cut flights early to save fuel. But UK and EU leaders said stocks were fine. Airports hold extra reserves as backup. Airlines buy fuel weeks ahead anyway. 

Jet2 has hedged 87% of its summer needs at $707 per tonne. This locks in costs and supply. It gives “high certainty” for peak season. Holidaymakers booking at the last minute added some stress. But the airline plans for 20 million passengers this year. No sign of change yet. 

On May 6, Jet2 posted on social media. A passenger asked about end-of-May flights. “Our flights are set to operate as planned,” replied Gemma from the team. “We will contact you if anything changes.” Pressed further, Jet2 conformed: “No reason to believe we won’t proceed as usual.” 

Current status looks good. As of May 12, 2026, UK officials repeat that there is no jet fuel shortage. Cirium data shows just 0.1% of May flights were cancelled—normal levels. Refineries got orders to max output just in case. But no planes are grounded.
