Fabric vs Silicone vs Tyvek Wristbands: Which Custom Option is Best for Your Event?

When planning an event, the right details can take your guests’ experience to the next level — from great to unforgettable.

That’s where custom wristbands come in. They not only serve as identifiers and access passes, but can also double as wearable keepsakes.

The most popular event wristbands are made using fabric, silicone, and Tyvek. All three material types have their own unique qualities and use cases.

Whether they’re right for your event will depend on how they’re rated for durability, comfort, customisation options, and the cost per unit. When you know the answers to these factors, you can make a better decision for your event needs.

Fabric Wristbands: Durable and Stylish

Fabric wristbands are made from durable woven or sublimated cloth materials. They feel soft and comfortable to touch. These are a popular choice for any multi-day events such as music festivals, conferences, or retreats.

They are extremely sturdy and can be used and reused over several days without fading or fraying. These can be fully customised with intricate logos and designs. Adjustable closures are typically available to ensure wristbands fit well on any wrist.

Silicone Wristbands: Soft and Accessible

The most notable quality of silicone wristbands is that they are flexible and wear well, even underwater. These are soft against the skin and comfortable to wear. You may recognise silicone wristbands as “awareness bands” (i.e., used due to a cause or fundraising organisation).

But they can also be used at events. The best feature of this type of wristband is its reusability. Guests can take these on and off and wear them even when the event has ended to spread the word about your event or brand.

Tyvek Wristbands: Simple and Economical

Tyvek wristbands are made of high-density polyethene fibres, which are spun together to create a paper-like texture that’s tough and durable. The material is lightweight but very hard to tear, and the bands are often used by event organisers who want a security measure that is simple and low-cost.

Because they must be ripped or cut to be removed after use, they are a non-transferable wristband, meant for one-time wear. For this reason, Tyvek wristbands are highly unlikely to outlive your event, but that’s okay, because they are also very budget-friendly!

Choosing the Right Wristband for Your Event

Essentially, the ideal wristband for your event depends on your specific event. If you are hosting a service or awareness campaign, you may want something like a silicone wristband for its longer wear time and longstanding viral power.

If you are planning a long music festival, with camping and vendors, you likely want a wristband that can withstand all those environmental hazards, like pool and ocean water, rain, alcohol, UV rays, sweat, and dirt. We recommend fabric event wristbands for this.

And finally, if you are looking for really inexpensive wristbands for a densely populated, once-in-a-lifetime event — a large charity marathon or a political rally, for example — Tyvek wristbands are your best bet!
